About

Hello, as a mental health therapist, I apply a variety of evidence-based treatment approaches to meet the unique, individual needs of each client I work with. My background is in social work, with an emphasis on social justice. I believe in racial equity and anti-oppressive practice. As a therapist, my role in anti-oppressive practice is to be actively anti-racist and advocate for human rights in every opportunity I have within the mental health field. I have a firm belief in self-determination and empowerment. My therapeutic approach incorporates evidence-based treatment, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, art therapy, narrative therapy, and mindfulness. I believe that at the core of all treatment is empowerment. My goal is to help you to highlight your strengths and seek out areas where you would like more support or positive change. My role as therapist will be to share with you the tools you need to succeed. I understand that change is difficult and can be incredibly scary at times. Therapy is a process and takes hard work from both the client and the therapist. We will work as a team to create a treatment plan which addresses your mental health concerns and outlines the work we will be doing in our sessions. I utilize evidence-based treatment to guide the work we will do together and believe that you are the expert on your own life. You are capable of amazing things and I am here to help you figure out how to achieve them. My role is as therapist and advocate to help you on your journey of self-improvement.

In addition to evidence-based treatments already mentioned, I utilize psychoeducation to help you understand your mental health diagnosis better and in a way that makes sense to you. Understanding the biological and physical aspects of mental health can be beneficial to helping you manage your mental health and remove the stigma often associated with mental illness. I will help you increase your emotional intelligence and identify triggers, while also practicing coping skills. I have experience working with clients diagnosed with anxiety, depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, and adjustment disorders. I believe that understanding your diagnosis is a key part of helping increase your mental health.

I do not believe a person is defined by their diagnosis—mental health starts with unconditional positive regard and empowerment. I believe in a person-centered, strengths-based approach which supports the individual and their right to self-determination. I also utilize a ecosystems theory which looks at the person in their environment, specifically how a person’s environment affects their health and wellbeing. As an anti-oppressive therapist, it is essential to consider the significant role that a person’s environment can play in their mental health, and acknowledge that there are factors outside of an individual’s control which heavily contribute to their mental health.

I earned my master’s degree in social work, with an emphasis on social justice, from Seattle University. I completed my master’s internship with a community mental health agency serving female-identifying clients throughout King County. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University and worked in child welfare and foster care for 2 years prior to moving to Seattle and working toward my master’s degree. I have experience working with individuals of all ages and from diverse backgrounds and cultures. I live in Seattle with my dog and cat. I love nature and the Pacific Northwest. I am happy to incorporate art, pets, and nature into therapy when appropriate.

I am available with Seattle Wellness Center on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
